William Drexel Duke (born 1958) is an American mathematician specializing in number theory.

1986

Duke studied at the University of New Mexico and then at New York University (Courant Institute), from which he received his Ph.D. in 1986 under the direction of Peter Sarnak.

After a postdoctoral stint at the University of California, San Diego he joined the faculty of Rutgers University, where he stayed until becoming a Professor of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles.

1998

Duke gave an Invited Address at the 1998 International Congress of Mathematicians in Berlin.

2001

Duke gave an AMS Invited Address at a 2001 Fall sectional meeting of the American Mathematical Society in Irvine, California.

2015

Since 2015, he has been Chair of the mathematics department at UCLA.

2016

He was selected as a fellow of the American Mathematical Society in 2016 "for contributions to analytic number theory and the theory of automorphic forms".
