McLaurin was born on September 15, 1995, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

2013

He won the state's Mr. Football Award in 2013 while playing football for Cathedral High School.

2014

McLaurin was regarded as a four-star recruit in the class of 2014 according to the 247Sports Composite.

McLaurin redshirted his freshman season in 2014.

2015

As a redshirt freshman for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2015, McLaurin appeared in six games and recorded seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
