His sister Olwyn Hughes (26 August 1928; died 3 January 2016) was his agent and also of Jean Rhys. She is portrayed in Janet Malcolm's book on Sylvia Plath'The Silent Woman (1994).

Ted Hughes was born on August 17, 1930 in Mytholmroyd, Yorkshire, England as Edward James Hughes.

1965

After Plath's suicide, Hughes and his children moved into the flat of his lover, Assia Wevill. They had a daughter, Alexandra Tatiana Eloise (Shura) Wevill, on 3 March 1965. Tragically, Assia killed herself along with Shura on 25 March 1969 in much the same manner Plath did: she dragged a bed into the kitchen, sealed the door and window, dissolved sleeping pills in a glass of water and gave them to Shura, took the rest of the pills, turned on the gas stove, got into the bed with Shura, and cradled the child in her arms.

1966

In 1966, Hughes' lover, Assia Wevill, moved in with him and they had a daughter, Alexandra (Shura) Hughes in 1967. Tragically, Assia killed herself along with Shura in March 1969, in much the same manner that Hughes' first wife, Sylvia Plath, committed suicide.
