Sol M. Wurtzel was born on September 12, 1890 in New York City, New York, USA as Solomon Myer Wurtzel.

1914

American production executive, with Fox from 1914 as private secretary to William Fox. From the mid-1930's until 1949, he served as head producer for the 20th Century Fox B-unit. His modestly budgeted films invariably showed a profit. Artistic merit never played a part in Wurtzel's production ethics. In the 1979 biography of his father Alexander Korda ("Charmed Lives") Michael Korda described Wurtzel as a "cigar-chewing vulgarian who was reputed to make Harry Cohn look like a gentleman by comparison" (p.84).
