Timeline

1910

Shep Fields was born on September 12, 1910 in Brooklyn, New York, USA as Saul Feldman.

1930

Popular band leader of the 1930s and '40s, best known for his "Rippling Rhythm" trademark, which featured Fields blowing bubbles into a bowl of water at the beginning of every song and a good deal of wood-block playing by the band's drummer. In that regard, Fields' style was something of a predecessor to Lawrence Welk's "Champagne Music" style.

1936

Had a major hit with "Did I Remember" for Bluebird Records in 1936.

1940

Fields tried to change his style in the early 1940s, when he formed Shep Fields and His New Music, a band comprised entirely of reed instruments. The experiment was not a success and his popularity declined by 1947, resulting in a return to his 'rippling style'.

1946

He was an actor and producer, known for Bringing Up Father (1946), Citizens Band (1977) and Shep Fields and His New Music with Ken Curtis (1941). He was married to Zook Kline and Evelyn Feinstein.
