His major league career lasted from 1961 to 1973; he played for the LA Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers and California Angels. He attended Michigan State, signed with the Chicago Cubs and was traded to the Dodgers for Don Zimmer. He was the ace of the Dodgers' bullpen from 1963 to 1966 and helped the team win the World Series in 1963 and 1965.
