1969

In 1969, he joined the band which became Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, two years after he lost an eye in a car accident.

1972

Despite not being the lead singer, his eye patch and cowboy hat made him the most easily recognized member of the band. However, he sang lead vocals on their 1972 hit, "Cover of the Rolling Stone". (They did eventually appear on the front of the magazine in 1973, albeit in caricature.).
