Admitted as a Liveryman of the Vinter's Company in the City of London, 1960

1967

His father had been Colonel of Royal Scots Greys Regiment. Fiennes joined the same regiment, and after blowing up the Doctor Dolittle (1967) film set as a prank left, for two more years in the Omani Army.

1984

Is considered quite an adventurer, 1984 saw his recognition by the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Greatest Living Explorer". Fiennes' Firsts include Expeditions up the White Nile on a hovercraft in 1969; Open boat transit of the Northwest Passage from West to East, 1981; Around the world on its polar axis, using surface transport only in 1982; Unsupported crossing of the Antarctic continent, 1993; Only person to cross both polar ice caps and climb Everest.
