1903

Debut in 1903 with the Belasco Stock Company in San Francisco. On Broadway from 1912 in 'The Talker'. Aside from her defining characterisation in 'Anna Christie', had other notable stage roles in 'Trelawney of the Wells' (1927), 'The Late Christopher Bean' (1932-1933), and 'Ethan Frome' (1936). Toured with 'The Glass Menagerie' (as Amanda) in 1946.

1921

Originated the role of Anna Christie on Broadway in 1921-1922, a role taken up on screen by Blanche Sweet in Anna Christie (1923), and by Greta Garbo in Anna Christie (1930).

1934

Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1934) and A Feather in Her Hat (1935). She was married to Owen B. Winter.

1950

She died in October 1950 from injuries sustained after her car went off the road near Alamogordo, New Mexico.
