1979

Sorrento played high school baseball for St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Massachusetts (1979–1983).

Sorrento played college baseball for the Florida State University Seminoles under head coach Mike Martin.

1985

In 1985, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

1986

On June 2, 1986, Sorrento was drafted by the California Angels in the 4th round of the 1986 MLB draft.

In an 11-season career, Sorrento posted a .257 batting average with 166 home runs and 565 RBI in 1093 games played.
