In 1896 he began selling his designs independently to top Parisian fashion houses, then exclusively for Jacques Doucet. From 1900 to 1904 he worked at Worth and then going solo in 1904.

He was a costume designer and actor, known for L'inhumaine (1924), At 3:25 (1925) and Odette (1916). He was married to Denise Boulet.

1930

He published his autobiography, "My First Fifty Years" in 1930 and also published "Les Robes de Paul Poiret" in 1908 illustrated by Paul Iribe and "Les Choses de Poiret" in 1911.
