A homegrown from Ormoc, Fran played for UST Growling Tigers under Aric del Rosario, and won a championship with the team.

1996

In 1996, Fran was drafted by Purefoods TJ Hotdogs, but was left unsigned and signed by Norman Black-coached Mobiline Phone Pals.

1998

While in the team, he won awards such as PBA All-Defensive Team in 1998, 2001, and 2003, PBA Most Improved Player Award in 1998, and Samboy Lim PBA Sportsmanship Award in 2003.
