Mordecai Richler was born on January 27, 1931 in Montréal, Québec, Canada.

1952

Canadian-Jewish novelist and essayist, the son of a scrap yard dealer. Worked briefly at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1952, before moving to London in 1954, where he published seven of his ten novels. He also worked as a journalist. Most of his novels deal with the conflict between Jew and Gentile.

1974

He was a writer and actor, known for The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1974), Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) and Joshua Then and Now (1985). He was married to Florence Wood.

2000

He was awarded the C.C. (Companion of the Order of Canada) on December 15, 2000 for his services to Canadian Literature.
