Composer and songwriter ("I Won't Grow Up," "Mademoiselle," "Great Day in the Morning," and many more), educated at the University of Pennsylvania (where he wrote shows for the Mask & Wig Club in Philadelphia), the University of Wisconsin, and the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music (now University of the Arts, in Philadelphia). He also studied music with Tibor Serly at the Manhattan School of Music. Charlap wrote the Broadway stage scores for "Peter Pan," "Whoop-Up," "The Conquering Hero," and the ballet "So This Is New York". Joining ASCAP in 1954, he collaborated musically with Carolyn Leigh and Bob Hilliard, and his popular-song compositions include "You, Only You," "I'm Flying," "I Gotta Crow," "I Won't Grow Up," "Wrong Joe," "Soft In the Heart," "Young Ideas," "When the Tall Man Talks," and "Love Eyes.
