Mohamed-Slim Alouini is the Al-Khwarizmi Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the holder of the UNESCO Chair in Education to Connect the Unconnected at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia.

His research interests include the modeling, design, and performance analysis of wireless, satellite, and optical communication systems.

He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and OPTICA (formerly known as the Optical Society of America (OSA).

In 1993, he obtained the Diplome d'Ingenieur and Diplome d'Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in Electronics from École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (Télécom Paris) and Université Pierre et Marie Curie (now Sorbonne Université - Campus Pierre et Marie Curie) in Paris, France respectively.

In 1995, he received the Masters of Sciences in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta in United States and in 1998 he obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Pasadena, California, United States.
