Everson was born in Abbeville, Georgia, on September 24, 1957.

In 1976, Everson served in the United States Army and United States Army Reserves, until 1999.

Everson graduated from the John E Reid School of Interrogation & Investigation in Chicago, Illinois, and the Coverdale Leadership Institute.
