She represented Great Britain at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, where she won a bronze medal in the women's 100-metre backstroke in the time of 1:13.1.

1958

At the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, she won a gold medal and a silver medal in the women's 440-yard medley relay and 110-yard backstroke respectively, while representing England.
