Marc Simont was born on November 23, 1915 in Paris, France. He was married to Sara Dalton.

1930

In the late 1930s, he shared an apartment with fellow art student Robert McCloskey in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. McCloskey wanted to study ducklings for a book he was working on, so he brought a flock home and housed them in the bathtub, with Simont's consent. The book was "Make Way for Ducklings", for which McCloskey won a Caldecott Medal.

1957

He was an award-winning illustrator of children's books. He illustrated almost 100 books. He received the Caldecott Medal in 1957, and was the runner-up twice.

2007

He was a longtime contributor of editorial cartoons to a community newspaper in Connecticut. He was honored in 2007 with the Grambs Aronson Award for Cartooning With a Conscience, presented by Hunter College in New York.
