Liesbet Hooghe (born December 1, 1962, in Oudenaarde, Belgium) is a Belgian political scientist, currently serving as the W. R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Political Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She is also a research fellow at the European University Institute, Florence.

1984

She graduated summa cum laude from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven with a Licentiate in Political Sciences in 1984, and received her Ph.D. in Political Science from KU Leuven in 1989.

1989

She was a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University in 1989–1990, and a postdoctoral fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford (1991–1994).

1994

Hooghe was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in 1994, obtaining tenure in 1999.

2000

In 2000, she moved to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

2002

She received the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2002–2003), Jean Monnet Fellowships (1996–1997; 2002–2003 declined), a Fellowship at the Hanse Institute for Advanced Study (2007–2008), and a Fellowship at the Research Center of the Free University of Berlin (2010–2011).

She was promoted to full professor in 2004, and appointed W.R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Professor in 2011.
