Keng-Siang "Keng" Lim (born July 7, 1965) is an Application Server and Information Security Pioneer, Board Member, and Advisor to technology companies. He is founder and chief executive of NextLabs, the leading provider of policy-driven information risk management software for large enterprises.
Lim earned a M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1991, and a B.S. in Computer Science and Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University in 1989.
In 1992, Lim pursued his first start-up, Approach Software, a desktop database software company. Approach was acquired by Lotus Software in 1993. In 1995, IBM acquired Lotus.
In 1995, Lim founded Kiva Software, a leading provider and pioneer of application server software. In 1996, Kiva Software released the industry's first application server to critical acclaim. In 1997, it won PC Week's Best of Comdex award for "Best Internet Software" at Comdex, and was selected as one of the industry's top privately held technology companies by Red Herring, Computerworld, and Data Communications magazine. In 1997, Kiva Software was acquired by Netscape Communications. After the acquisition, Lim served as Vice President and General Manager of Netscape's Application Server and Web Infrastructure Products Division.
In 1998, Lim co-founded Sygate Technologies, a leading provider of endpoint security enforcement software. Lim served as chairman of Sygate until it was acquired by Symantec in 2005.
In 1999, Lim founded Escalate, an e-commerce applications service provider, which merged with GERS in 2004, and was acquired by Red Prairie in 2011.
In 2004, Lim founded NextLabs, where he is currently serving as chairman and chief executive officer. NextLabs is an enterprise software company that provides information risk management solutions. Its highly rated products and solutions are used by companies in the financial services, aerospace and defense, chemical, energy, manufacturing, and financial industries, where global operations and partner collaborations require the sharing and protection of sensitive data. Lim holds 54 patents in policy-driven information controls and internet security. NextLabs is a privately held company headquartered in San Mateo, California, with additional offices in London, Chicago, New York, Frankfurt, Paris, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Lim received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to the advancement of technology at IDG's Demo Fall 2009, was selected as one of the "50 Smartest People" by ZDNet in 2000, and was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award by Ohio Northern University's T.J. Smull College of Engineering in 2013. He holds over 40 approved and pending patents in internet- and information security-related areas.
