1944

During WWII, at age 15, he lied about his age to enlist, and served in England for four years. He was discharged in 1944 because of rheumatoid arthritis.

2004

Pictured on one of six Canada commemorative postage stamps issued 24 January 2004 honoring living hockey players. Stamps were issued in booklet form and in a single souvenir sheet. Other players honored were Brad Park, Larry Robinson, Marcel Dionne, Ted Lindsay, and Milt Schmidt.
