1965

Jim's mother relocated from New York to California following the death of Jim's adoptive father. Jim was nine years old. His mother subsequently remarried and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where Jim attended high school. He excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. Though offered a basketball scholarship at UCLA, he signed with the Baltimore Orioles at age 18 and received a $50,000 signing bonus. During his pitching career for the Orioles (1965-1984) he won 268 games and became the only pitcher to win a World Series game in each of three different decades. He was voted the Cy Young Award three times.

1966

Member of 1966, 1970 and 1983 World Series Champion Baltimore Orioles teams. Member of 1969, 1971 and 1979 American League Champion Baltimore Orioles teams. Member of 1973 and 1974 American League Eastern Division Champion Baltimore Orioles team.

1968

His career almost ended prematurely until he had arm surgery in 1968. He restarted his Hall of Fame career in 1969.

1970

Named to 6 American League All Star Teams (1970-1972, 1975, 1977-1978).

1973

Won American League Cy Young Award 3 times (1973 and 1975-1976). Finished in top 10 in voting for same award 1970, 1972, 1977-1978 and 1982.
