Born in 1970 in Washington D.C., Pegues spent part of his childhood in Westport, Connecticut.

Pegues, who is divorced, currently resides in Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was an all-state track star and an all-conference football player.

He was a starting wide receiver, and earlier in his career, a back-up to Canadian Football League legend Milt Stegall.
