Jean Strouse (born 1945) is an American biographer, cultural administrator, and critic.

She is best known for her biographies of diarist Alice James and financier J. Pierpont Morgan.

1967

Strouse was an editorial assistant at The New York Review of Books from 1967 to 1969.

Strouse graduated from Radcliffe College in 1967.

1979

She was a book critic at Newsweek magazine from 1979 to 1983, and won a MacArthur Fellowship in September, 2001.

She has also held fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

She has contributed reviews and essays on literary and other topics to the New York Times Book Review, The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, and Vogue.
