1985

Ernest was educated at the University of Madras and ordained an Anglican priest in 1985.

2001

In 2001 he was consecrated as the 15th bishop of Mauritius.

2006

From 2006 to 2017 he was archbishop of the Province of the Indian Ocean.

2008

In 2008 he was awarded the Cross of St Augustine, the second-highest international award for outstanding service to the Anglican Communion, by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

2019

Since October 2019 he has been the Archbishop of Canterbury's Personal Representative to the Holy See and Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome.
