Hubert Marischka was born on August 27, 1882 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary as Hubert Josef Marischka.

1904

Hubert began work as a joiner but trained as a singer and in 1904 began a new career in operetta in the town theatre of St. Pölten in Der arme Jonathan by Karl Millöcker.

1907

He had his first success as a singer in Brünn in 1906, as Danilo in Die lustige Witwe. On 27 July 1907 he sang at the premiere of the Der fidele Bauer by Leo Fall in Mannheim.

1913

The actor and director Hubert Marischka belongs to the Austrian film pioneers who shot his first movie as a director in 1913 called "Der Milllionenonkel". He also wrote the script and appeared as an actor in it.

1922

Hubert Marischka married as his second wife Lilian "Lilly" Karczag, daughter of the theatre director Wilhelm Karczag, and from this marriage had two more children, the director Georg Marischka, 1922-1999, and Tassilo Marischka, born 1928. This marriage ended in divorce.

1923

He became a popular operetta singer and took over the direction of the Theater an der Wien in 1923. He staged many operettas like "Das weisse Rössel" and "Gräfin Mariza", which got also attention behind the frontier.

1924

On 28 February 1924 he was responsible for the premiere of the operetta Gräfin Mariza. At the end of the 1920s he sang at the Wiener Staatsoper in Eine Nacht in Venedig. For a time Marischka was also director of the Stadttheater Wien and of the Raimundtheater, director of the Papageno Music Publishers and a professor of operetta at the Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst.

1941

He made contact early on with the new medium of film, in which he worked as actor, director and screen writer. His films are often of the Wiener Film genre. With Hans Moser he made such well-known films as Wir bitten zum Tanz (1941) and Der Herr Kanzleirat (1948).

1946

During World War II he was married for a short time to his third wife, Juliane. In 1946 he was married for the fourth and last time to the actress Trude Basch-Havel.

1952

He was a director and writer, known for Du bist die Rose vom Wörthersee (1952), Die Perle von Tokay (1954) and Der Herr Kanzleirat (1948). He was married to Trude Basch-Havel, Felicitas Anna "Lizzy" Léon, Juliane and Lilian "Lilly" Karczag.
