She attended Stanford University and became a member of the LPGA Tour in 2002.

On July 7, 2003, Lunke defeated Kelly Robbins and Angela Stanford in an 18-hole playoff to win the U.S. Women's Open for her first and only LPGA win.

Lunke was also the first player to win the U.S. Open after advancing through local and sectional qualifying.

Lunke joined the LPGA Player Executive Committee in 2006, and was selected vice president in 2007 and president in 2008.
