He plays for the Victorian Vikings in the Australian Hockey League.

Simpson was born on 5 May 1987 and is from Melbourne, Victoria.

When not playing hockey, he is an electrician.

Simpson started playing hockey as a seven-year-old and played junior hockey for Greensborough.

As a junior player for Victoria, he was a member of a team that won the U21 national championships.

He plays for the Victorian Vikings in the Australian Hockey League, where is guernsey number is 21.

His first national team cap was in February 2009 in a game against Belgium played in Canberra.

New national team coach Ric Charlesworth named him and thirteen new players who had less than ten national team caps alongside current players to the squad before in April 2009 in a bid to ready the team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
