American illustrator, animator, graphic designer and, briefly, child radio actor. His wife is a painter and author-illustrator of children's books. His film "Anansi the Spider" won the Blue Ribbon at the American Film Festival and was called one of "the two most popular children's films produced in 1970" by Wilson Library Bulletin. In 1972, the book version was published and was named a Caldecott Honor Book and won a Lewis Carroll Shelf Award for 1973.
