Timeline

1965

Fiona Muir-Harvey (born 28 July 1965) (often referred to as Fiona Harvey) is a Scottish lawyer who allegedly inspired Richard Gadd's stage show and Netflix television miniseries, Baby Reindeer.

Harvey was born on 28 July 1965 in Fyvie, in Aberdeenshire.

She has said she had a "middle-class upbringing" in rural Scotland.

1980

She attended the University of Aberdeen, earning a law degree during the 1980s.

Following the broadcast of the Netflix television miniseries Baby Reindeer in April 2024, speculation developed that Harvey was the real-life inspiration of the character Martha Scott, a former lawyer who stalks the main character, Donnie.

1997

Laura Wray, a lawyer and widow of the Scottish politician Jimmy Wray, stated that she had briefly employed Harvey at her law firm in 1997, and claimed that Harvey had made abusive social media posts after losing her job.

It was also alleged that Harvey had sent abusive emails to the British politician Keir Starmer.

Harvey lives in London.

She and her boyfriend have been together for approximately five years, as of 2024.

2014

Fans of the television show searched the social media site Twitter and discovered numerous tweets from Harvey's account in 2014 which tagged Richard Gadd, the show's creator.

Among the tweets was one notable reference to hanging curtains, a sexually suggestive phrase which was later used in the script of Baby Reindeer.

On 8 May 2024, Harvey came forward with a claim as the "real Martha", which was announced via the Twitter account of Piers Morgan.

The following day, Harvey was interviewed by Morgan on his online show Piers Morgan Uncensored.

During her interview, Harvey admitted she had met Gadd several times at The Hawley Arms, Camden, but denied sending him 41,000 emails or going to his home.

She admitted to sending up to 10 emails and a letter as well as several tweets.

It also emerged that Harvey had briefly been employed at a law firm owned by Laura Wray, widow of the former Labour MP Jimmy Wray, and their association had been problematic.

Harvey claimed in the interview, "I don't lie" and that the public should "judge for yourselves".

She threatened to sue both Gadd and Netflix.

The interview drew some criticism, questioning the ethics behind the decision.

She later claimed she was paid £250 to appear, and that the interview left her feeling "a bit used".

Harvey has stated that she has never been convicted of a criminal offence.

She has announced her intention to sue Richard Gadd and Netflix, for failing to prevent members of the public from identifying her as the real-life stalker behind the Baby Reindeer narrative, and for falsely portraying her as a convicted criminal.

In the wake of the Baby Reindeer revelations, further harassment allegations emerged in the media.
