Ernesto "Ernest" Gonzalez (born 1962) is an American lawyer with the United States Department of Justice Criminal Division who is the designate to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.

1987

Gonzalez received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1987 and a Juris Doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston in 1993.

1994

From 1994 to 2000, Gonzalez worked as an assistant district attorney in Bexar County in San Antonio, Texas.

2000

From 2000 to 2003, he was an assistant United States attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas and from 2003 to 2023, he served as an assistant United States attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Texas.

Since 2023, Gonzalez has served as a senior attorney advisor in the U.S. Department of Justice's Criminal Division, Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Section.

On December 19, 2023, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Gonzalez to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.

His nomination received support from Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.
