Den Serras was born on March 17, 1969 in Cazenovia, New York, USA as Dennis Kirchoff Ludwick.

1979

An early adopter of technology to expand storytelling, he was the first to use 10.2 channel audio on a film, developed by THX inventor Tomlinson Holman; among the first filmmakers to shoot in 100% greenscreen on all HD cameras; created the largest VFX movie in USC's history (over 600 shots) and pushed the development of an innovative student VFX lab in the process; created award-winning story-driven websites and trade shows starting in the mid-'90s; used computers to assist his theatre productions' visuals and audio as far back as the '80s; and even created music-ish compositions on Syntauri synthesizers in 1979 for a 4th grade school project. As of February, 2011 he was deeply involved in the development of new stereoscopic tools to improve the director's ability to affect the audience through depth.
