David H. Coar (born 1943) is a former United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

1964

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Coar received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University in 1964, a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1969, and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1970.

1965

He was a United States Marine Corps Sergeant in 1965.

and United States Marine Corps Reserve Sergeant from 1965 to 1971.

1970

He was a Legal intern for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund in New York City from 1970 to 1971.

1971

Coar entered private practice in Mobile, Alabama from 1971 to 1972, then in Birmingham from 1973 to 1974.

Coar was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 6, 1994, and received his commission on October 7, 1994.

He assumed senior status August 12, 2009 and retired December 31, 2010.

2013

In 2013 he was named to co-lead a commission with Benjamin K. Miller to draw a path to Bond Court reform for the state of Illinois.
