Cy Howard was born on September 27, 1915 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA as Seymour Horowitz.

1933

Junior doubles tennis champion in 1933 at the University of Wisconsin. Transferred to the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in economics.

1950

His first job was as a salesman in Chicago, earning $70 a week. He began acting on stage in New York, then wrote gags for Danny Thomas and Milton Berle, acquiring a well-earned reputation for wit. He enjoyed his first major success as writer and producer for the radio comedy show 'My Friend Irma', which he based on recollections of people he had met in Manhattan. This later spawned several feature films and a television series. In the late 1950's, he worked at Desilu for five years as producer and script supervisor.

1951

He was a writer and producer, known for That's My Boy (1951), The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (1967) and My Friend Irma (1949). He was married to Barbara Warner Howard, Gloria Grahame and Nan Wynn.

1970

Directed one Oscar nominated performance: Richard S. Castellano in Lovers and Other Strangers (1970).
