Curt Goetz was born on November 17, 1888 in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany as Kurt Walter Götz. He was a writer and actor, known for Frauenarzt Dr.

1890

Kurt Walter Götz was born in Mainz, Germany as the son of the Swiss wine examiner Bernhard Götz, and his German wife of Italian and French descent, Selma (born Rocco). His father died in 1890. His mother then went with the two-year-old Curt to Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, where she managed a private clinic.

1907

Curt Goetz began his acting career at the theater where he got first engagements in 1907. From 1911 he also wrote successfully plays which were also filmed in later years.

1912

His film career started already in 1912 when he was in evidence as an actor in "Schwarzes Blut". In the following years he appeared in many further silent movies .

1923

Curt Goetz retired from the film business after that and concentrated to his theater career. Together with his second wife Valerie von Martens,who he got married in 1923, and with the actors Hermann Vallentin and Walter Steinbeck he went on journey for guest performances.

1925

He wrote his biggest success in 1925, the crime comedy "Hokuspokus".

1936

At the beginning of the talkies he didn't appear as an actor but as a screenwriter, especially his witty dialogues for "Glückskinder" (1936) and "Sieben Ohrfeigen" (1937) were classic examples for his humorous talent.

1938

In 1938 he played under his own direction and script in the movie "Napoleon ist an allem schuld".

1939

In 1939 he went to Hollywood to study film-making. He worked with the director Reinhold Schunzel, among others, and several of his comedies were turned into films.

1945

Goetz and Valerie von Martens returned to Europe in 1945, living in Switzerland by Lake Thun (Goetz had Swiss nationality from birth), where Goetz wrote some successful novels. The couple later moved to Liechtenstein.

1946

In 1946 he returned to Europe and settled in Switzerland. He had still great successes with his own plays like "Das Haus in Montevideo", which was a success at the theater as well as a film adaption.
