She is married to Jay Carney, President Barack Obama's former White House Press Secretary.
She is also Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Columbia University.
Shipman, born October 4, 1962, in Washington, D.C., is the daughter of the late Christie (Armstrong) and Morgan Enlow Shipman, Professor of Law at The Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law.
