Having recently been selected to represent England in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia's Gold Coast, French has stated his ambition is to become an Olympic champion in 2020.

French attended St Annes RC Primary School in Gateshead followed by St Thomas More RC School, also in Gateshead and was known as "Frenchy" to his friends.
