Bryan William Lourd was born on November 5, 1960, in New Iberia, Louisiana, to Sherion (Brice) and Harvey H. Lourd Jr. (1938–2011).

He attended New Iberia Senior High School, and earned a degree from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in 1982.
