1933

He was the favorite costume designer of Irene Dunne - upon whose recommendation he was signed by RKO - and Ginger Rogers. He designed gowns for nine of Rogers' films: Rafter Romance (1933), Roberta (1935), Star of Midnight (1935), Top Hat (1935), In Person (1935), Follow the Fleet (1936), Swing Time (1936), Vivacious Lady (1938) and Tales of Manhattan (1942).

1934

Attended the Art Student's League in Paris before spending twelve years at Bergdorf-Goodman in New York, initially as a window dresser. He eventually worked his way up to chief designer. He then moved to Hollywood, working at RKO from 1934 to 1936, designing gowns for several musicals starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. He returned to Bergdorf-Goodman afterward, but continued working for film occasionally: at Columbia in 1938 and Warner Bros from 1946 to 1947.

1935

He was said to have spent $250,000 on the gowns worn by Ginger Rogers and Irene Dunne in the musical Roberta (1935).

2004

Inducted into the Costume Designers Hall of Fame in 2004.
