William Benjamin King (a. k. a. Basil King) was a Canadian Episcopalian minister and author. He was born on 26, February, 1859 at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and received his education at St. Peter's School at Charlottetown and King's College in Windsor, Nova Scotia.

1884

He was ordained in 1884 and soon became rector at St.

1892

Luke's Pro- Cathedral in Halifax and later in 1892 rector of Christ Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

1900

In 1900 King chose to retire from the ministry because of his failing eyesight and begin what would turn out to be a very successful writing career. King wrote sixteen novels, of which "The Inner Shrine", "The Wild Olive" and "The Street Called Straight", were probably his best remembered. He was also a frequent contributor to national magazines.

1918

King was married to the former Esther Foot; in July of 1918 their daughter, Penelope (1894-1970), married Reginald Wilson Orcutt (1894-1965), an American explorer of the Canadian wilderness and son of author William Dana Orcutt, at King's summer home in Dublin, New Hampshire.

1928

William Benjamin King passed away on 22 June, 1928, at his home in Cambridge after a protracted illness. He was survived by his wife and daughter.
