Won the Military Cross, became a Privy Councillor in 1934, a Knight of the Garter in 1954 and the 1st Earl of Avon in 1961

1935

British foreign secretary (1935-1938, 1940-1945, 1951-1955). British prime minister (1955-1957).

1956

His premiership ended when the United States strongly opposed the Anglo-French-Israeli military intervention in Egypt during the Suez Crisis in November 1956. The incident is widely regarded as the end of the UK's role as a superpower, although in reality this had happened during World War II.
