He went to school at Selborne College in East London and played for the at the 2008 Craven Week tournament and later represented them in the 2011 Under-21 Provincial Championship competition.

He played in five of their matches in that competition, which saw the team win the Division B final and the promotion play-off which saw them promoted to Division A.

2012

His senior debut for the senior side came in the 2012 Currie Cup First Division season, when he started as the tighthead prop in the team's 11–33 defeat to the, before quickly establishing himself as a first team regular during the 2012 Currie Cup First Division and 2013 Vodacom Cup seasons.
