He usually lines out as a centre-forward.
Walsh first came to prominence as a hurler with Good Counsel College in New Ross.
He played in every grade of hurling before eventually joining the college's senior hurling team.
On 18 October 2008, Walsh was at left wing-forward when Tullogher–Rosbercon faced Piltown in the Southern Junior Championship final.
He scored a point from play and collected a winners' medal following the 1-11 to 0-08 defeat of Piltown.
