Timeline

1950

The United Press International Hollywood Correspondent and columnist for 52 years, Vernon Scott was a widely respected member of the Tinseltown journalistic community. In addition to his daily column for UPI, which started in 1950, Scott also offered a radio version of his filmic observations and musings on UPI Radio Network for 12 years. Among his many and varied credentials covering Hollywood for UPI was the fact that Vernon was one of the first top-of-the-line journalists to not only GET the joke of the RAZZIE Awards (which "dis-honor" Worst Achievements in Film) but to run with it. For more than 20 years, Scott was an unflagging supporter of the counter-culture awards, doing everything he could think of to help bring them into the mainstream.
