The 87th district includes all or portions of Sangamon, Menard, Logan and Tazewell counties in Central Illinois.

After Brauer's resignation, the Republican Representative Committee of the Republican Party of the 87th District appointed Butler to the vacancy in the 87th district.

1990

Butler graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.

1994

After graduating college he worked as a staff assistant for the United States House Committee on Education and Labor until 1994.

1995

He was the communications director for Congressman Ray LaHood from 1995 to 2009.

2009

He worked as the Director of Marketing for Saint John's Hospital from 2009 to 2012.

2010

Jason Huffman was appointed to the remainder of Butler's term in the 102nd General Assembly.
