Sophia Kunin (born April 3, 1997) is an American professional ice hockey player.
She currently plays in the Professional Women's Hockey League, on the PWHL Minnesota team.
She is known for her versatility, and is able to play the positions of center, winger, and defense.
Sophia Shaver was born on April 3, 1997 in Wayzata, Minnesota.
She attended Wayzata High, where she played varsity ice hockey.
Kunin was invited to the U.S. Women's National Hockey Team Training Camp in 2014.
She was selected as member of the 2015 U.S. U18 team, where she won a Gold Medal in the IIHF World Women's U18 Championships.
From 2015-2019, she played for the Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program.
She served as an alternate captain in her junior year.
As a senior in the 2018-2019 season, she was named team captain.
Under her leadership, the Badgers made it to the NCAA finals, where she scored the game-winning goal to win the national title.
In 2019 she joined the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association.
She played for Minnesota in the PWHPA from 2020-2022.
As part of an ongoing partnership between the ECHL, PWHPA, and PHF, she was nominated to be one of four women to play at the 2022 ECHL All-star Classic.
In the 2022-2023 season, she won the PWHPA Secret Cup with Team Harvey.
In 2023, she was drafted by PWHL Minnesota in the 10th round of the inaugural PWHL entry draft (no. 60 overall).
She signed a one-year contract.
