Walden's acting credits include hits in both television and film, such as the Smash series Lou Grant (1977) (for which he received three Emmy® nominations), the show Brothers (1984) (two CableACE nominations) and the films All the President's Men (1976), Whiskey School (2005), The Out-Of-Towners (1970), and Audrey Rose (1977).

Nominated three times for an Emmy award, in 1979, 1980 and 1981, for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for: Lou Grant (1977).

Signed on to star on Showtime's comedy series Brothers (1984), one of the first American sitcoms to feature openly gay characters.
