Paul Erdman was born on May 19, 1932 in Stratford, Ontario, Canada as Paul Emil Erdman.

1965

First American to establish a private bank in Switzerland, in 1965. The bank collapsed 1970 because of unauthorized speculation in cocoa and silver futures. Losses were reported in the tens of millions of dollars. In 1973, a Swiss court convicted him in absentia of fraud and sentenced him to nine years' imprisonment.

1974

His novel, "The Billion Dollar Sure Thing," won an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America in 1974.
