Born in Greece where she learned classical singing. Fired from Athen's conservatory because she used to sing jazz in cabarets. Began an international career as singer in the early 1960s. Sold her first million records in Germany.

1962

Released a jazz album produced by Quincy Jones in 1962. Sold over 300 millions albums worldwide.

1965

In 1965, she was invited by Harry Belafonte to do a tour with him. When he told her to take off her glasses on stage, she was so unhappy that she wanted to quit the show after two days. Finally, Belafonte allowed her to perform with her glasses.

1968

Nana Mouskouri has two children with George Petsilas: a son, Nicolas Petsilas, born 1968, and a daughter, Helene, born 1970, known under the artist names Lénou Mouskouri and Lénou.
