Marc Thorpe (born September 14, 1978) is an industrial designer and architect.
Thorpe was awarded the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for architectural leadership at Parsons.
He also won the American Architecture Award in 2022.
He is one of the youngest designers for the Italian design business Moroso and was chosen for inclusion in the book Ultimate New York Design, which features 50 of the best designers in New York City.
His work has been published in Wallpaper, Interior Design Magazine, International Design (ID), Viewpoint, Mix, Surface, Interni, Frame, and Absolute Architecture.
Thorpe was born in Maryland.
He earned his Bachelor of Art in graphic and industrial design from the University of Maryland, followed in 2004 by a Master of Architecture degree with honors from Parsons School of Design, New York.
Thorpe founded Marc Thorpe Design, a design firm, in 2010 and started his career with architecture, interiors, furniture design, product design, and branding.
The Mark Table, designed by Thorpe in 2010, was his first collaboration with Moroso.
In 2012, he designed the Blur Sofa and fabric for Moroso, of which the design gained considerable global media attention.
In 2013, Thorpe designed the first retail space of Under Armour in Shanghai, China, a 2,500-square-foot interactive media experience space at the Jing An Kerry Centre.
He won the Good Design Award for his architectural work for Under Armour.
Thorpe designed the Morning Glory table collection for Moroso in 2014, which was presented at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Italy.
In 2015, he began working in Senegal, West Africa, with Moroso on their outdoor collection M’Afrique.
The same year, he presented a solo show, Blurred Limits, for Moroso in New York City.
In 2016, he was featured as the cover designer of the French magazine Intramuros.
In 2016, he was selected as the signature designer for Stella Artois to design their product collection, NOVA.
In 2017, Thorpe’s design studio designed the 40,000 sqft private members club for the Classic Car Club in Manhattan, New York City.
In 2019, Thorpe collaborated with Italian glass maker, VENINI, presenting his first solo collection.
Since 2020, Thorpe focused primarily on sustainable designs, winning multiple design awards, most notably, the Green Good Design Award and the American Architecture Award in 2022.
Notable architectural projects include an eco-friendly village in Kampala, Uganda, using earth brick, the solar Sharp House in New Mexico [3], and most recently, under his development agency Edifice Upstate, the 100% off-grid solar-powered Fremont House in the West Catskills of New York.
In 2022, Monsa Publications published first book entitled Marc Thorpe, Toward an Architecture of Responsibility.
In 2023, Thorpe created the Fremont House, situated in the Western Catskill Mountains of New York.
